PRINCIPLE

NEC Screw Air Compressors operate on a rotary-type positive displacement mechanism. The screw element consists of two helical rotors, each with a different profile and number of lobes / grooves.

First, atmospheric air is drawn into the screw element. As the air progresses along the rotors, its volume is progressively reduced, resulting in compressed air. The key feature of this mechanism is the interaction between the male and female rotors, which trap, compress, and release air on demand.

In an Oil-Lubricated Screw Compressor, the male rotor is driven directly by the motor or engine, while the female rotor is driven by the male rotor through a thin film of oil between them. This oil film also provides sealing, cooling, and lubrication.

In an Oil-Free Screw Compressor, the timing between the male and female rotors is precisely controlled by a set of timing gears. Since no oil is used for sealing the compression chamber, it delivers 100% oil-free compressed air.

WORKING PROCESS

The basic principle of a rotary screw air compressor is that the male and female rotors spin in opposite directions. The prime mover drives the rotor of the air-end, creating a vacuum that draws surrounding air into the air-end through the air filter. As the rotors rotate, air is trapped in the spaces between the two screws.

Atmospheric air enters the rotary screw compressor through the air intake system. First, it passes through a filter that removes suspended particles. The filtered air then enters the air-end — the heart of the rotary screw compressor — where it is trapped within the spaces between the two intermeshing lobed rotors. As the rotors turn, these trapped pockets of air are progressively compressed and discharged as compressed air at the air-end outlet.

Textile industries use these compressors for drying applications. In agriculture, farms commonly use them to operate sprayers for liquids such as insecticides and fertilizers, which are easily atomized and carried by compressed air.

Pre-filters, after-filters, and micro-filters further remove dust particles from the compressed air. In addition, an auto drain valve removes moisture from the air receiver. Through this continuous process, the air is purified and made ready for use.
